4-Wheeling Adventure

This weekend to celebrate Monty's mom's birthday the whole family (minus Gina who's in Connecticut) got together and went out to Simpson Springs to go 4-wheeling.  I'll admit I was a little nervous as to how Mia would do in the desert all day with no nap and outside her normal routine, but for the most part she did great and we all had a good time...until the end.  Let me start at the beginning.
We  headed out to Simpson Springs in the morning.  Our car left later than the rest because we have a little princess who doesn't like to get woken up (Mia not me).  When we got out there Mia got to go on a little ride with Monty on the 4-wheeler around the camp ground
Mia wasn't too sure at first but ended up loving it.
Mia started her eating early when we got there and never did stop.  She used her little camp chair and then made the picnic table bench her table.  At least for a little bit, then she realized it was much more fun to run and eat at the same time.
Monty and I left Mia to play with the family and took off exploring on our own on one of the 4-wheelers.
A little while later the big 4-wheeler was back and available so the whole family went out for a ride.  I felt much better about this ride over Monty's ride with Mia because Monty could focus on driving and I could hold on to Mia.  Mia just sat there looking around and every now and again would say "Weee."
We spent a lot of time just hanging out, talking, enjoying each other's company,
 And of course eating.
The longer the day went on the messier Mia got.  She didn't mind a bit though.
Nana brought some little water guns so we had a mini water fight going on.
By about 3:30 Mia was pretty tired.  She decided to just lay down in the dirt to rest.  Silly girl.
By the time we left everyone was exhausted.  But that was when the real adventure began.
Sadly the naps didn't last very long.  Luckily we were in the back of the caravan on the way to dinner because about a half an hour down the road, Monty's parents truck blew a tire.  What I neglected to mention is that when they first got to the campground and got out of the truck they heard a hissing sound and saw a tire going flat so the spare tire was already on the truck when this one blew.
So we emptied out our trunk into the bed of the truck, loaded the first flat tire into our car, I got out and Monty's dad got in and they headed into the big old town of Vernon, UT (population 200) that was 8 miles down the road.  Once Matt and Jen realized no one was behind them anymore, they turned around and came back to find the rest of us.
Jen and Sam took the blown tire off.
While the rest of us sat around, supervised, and waited for the tire to come back.
Luckily someone in the tiny town of Vernon was able to put a couple plugs in the tire.  They made it back with the tire, got it put back on the truck, and managed to make it the 8 miles to Vernon before to plug came out and the tire went flat again.  The wonderful nice family that fixed the tire in the first place let Monty's parents borrow a car to get home and to get a couple new tires and then made the hour and a half trip back to Vernon on Sunday to put the truck back together and get it home.

Kelly was kicked out of the truck and made the rest of the journey back to West Jordan in our car.  We didn't stop with everyone else in Vernon seeing as we had an exhausted and hungry 2 year old.  Luckily Mia had 2 aunts entertaining her for the ride home.
Unplanned adventures aside, we all had a great time.

WE'RE APPROVED

You may notice a few new additions to the blog.  Last Thursday we were finally approved for our 2nd adoption.  We are now just waiting and hoping to give Mia a sibling.  We are asking everyone to spread the word.  There are more and more unwed mothers choosing to parent which means fewer and fewer babies are being placed for adoption.  If you know of an unwed mother LDS Family Services is a great resource for them whether they are considering parenting, adoption, or wondering what their options are.  If you know a mother considering placing her precious child for adoption, have them check us out.  You can find our profile from the link on the right side of this blog or at https://itsaboutlove.org/ial/profiles/27976581/ourMessage.jsf
We also have an adoption blog that we update once a month so birth moms can see what our lives are like.  There is a link to it on our profile and it can also be found at montyandstephanie@blogspot.com
Please help us spread the word so we can bring our next child home.

The Big Girl Is 2!

On Saturday Mia turned 2 years old.  I can't believe have quickly she has grown up.  We had just a small family party with our family, grandparents, and Trina since she is now living here.  We just had a BBQ and then had cake and ice cream and a few presents.
Mia tried to blow out her candles but for whatever reason Blogger won't let me upload the video so we don't get to share that part.
This year Mia like her cake a little more.  She didn't really eat the cake but highly enjoyed the frosting.
We started with 4 balloons but the yellow one didn't even make it home and the pink one exploded shortly after getting home so we only got a picture with the 2.

Nana and Grandpa gave Mia a cute Halloween skirt and shirt, a night gown, and with Trina they gave her a RSL track suit.

Aunt Trina also replaced one of Mia's blankets (shh don't tell Mia that).  We found the exact same one so decided to get rid of the one that no longer comes clean and always smells.
Grandma and Grandpa Cobbley gave Mia 2 cute dresses and a super cute skirt and shirt set.
Mia also got Lego's and she has not yet stopped playing with her blocks.
When I was little my Grandma made me a doll bunk bed.  I had no idea what had happened to it but a couple months ago it kind of fell in my lap.  I cleaned it up a little bit, got foam mattresses for it, and made sheets for it.
She also got a new baby.  She loves her new baby and all that it does.
When her baby is not in demo mode it makes more noises including screaming and crying.  Seeing as Mia doesn't understand that you have to be nice to baby and give her her binki when she is crying, baby stays in demo mode for now.
Mia even sleeps with her new baby.
Before they had to go home, Grandpa helped Mia to ride her bike and work at using the pedals.  Mia was sad when Grandma and Grandpa had to leave because we don't get to see them very often but Thanksgiving isn't too far away so we'll get to see them again soon.

FSA BBQ

This weekend we went to the Families Supporting Adoption BBQ.  It was good to talk to people who have adopted and are in the process of adopting and hear about their experiences.  We are hoping by this time next week that we will be approved for our second adoption so we can work at getting Mia a sibling.  Also, it was a lot of fun.  They had a bounce house and Mia couldn't get enough of it.
She spent most of her time holding onto the ropes to keep her balance (which was good cuz there were some big crazy boys in there) but every now and again she would venture out to the middle.
She just kept saying "jump, jump, jump, and bouncing all over the place.
Mia is also getting better at riding her trike.  Every now and again she can get herself going using the pedals.
Most of the time though she just rides it down the driveway, which was why we got the helmet.  We have had lots of spills at the end of the driveway.
And boy oh boy does this girl love her helmet.  She asks for it every time we go outside (sometimes before we are even outside) and throws a fit when we take it off.
Safety first I guess.

Escape Artist

For awhile now Mia has been able to climb out of her crib.  She doesn't do it very often, mostly in the afternoon when she doesn't want to take a nap.  The other day I had a feeling she was going to try to climb out so I waited by the crack in her door with the camera to see if I could get a picture.  She didn't disappoint and within a few minutes was on her way out.

Mia really likes our bed so hopefully it will be a smooth transition to her own big bed.
Mia loves helping to wash her hair in the tub now.  It results in bubbles everywhere but she loves it.
After lots of work the basement bedrooms are about done.  They just need trim and the closets need finished.
It happened just in time because Monty's sister moved in this weekend.
The closets will get finished this weekend but I think most of the trim is going to have to wait awhile.

Congratulations Monty!

Yesterday Monty's boss pulled him into his office.  After chit chat for a half hour Monty was on the edge of his seat wondering what he'd done wrong.  Turns out, they decided to make him a Senior Analyst.  Needless to say Monty was shocked.  This was a promotion he was hoping for maybe the end of next year but they said with finishing school and all the hard work he has put in with some big changes at work they thought he was ready now.  I'm so proud of him and all his hard work.  Way to go Monty!!!!!!

Swimming!

Uncle Sam and Aunt Megan recently moved into a new apartment and their apartment has a pool.  A couple weeks ago while I was working Monty took Mia down for a visit and they went swimming.  Mia got to try our her new puddle jumper.  It's a little big but it worked at keeping her afloat as she would break away.
Mia had a great time swimming with her daddy.  She likes to be very independent and swim by herself which can be kind of scary but she does pretty good.  She is defintely a child of the water.
And a daddy's girl to boot.
