Mia's getting better at sitting still while I do her hair (which is very helpful) but she has also taken a liking to doing other's hair as well. She likes to do Monty's hair because it is easier.
This month was obviously the 4th of July and we had a great time and celebrated in style! After a BBQ with our friends we did fireworks. Mia was the only one brave enough to do sparklers.
Enjoying Monty's firework show.We got some pretty awesome fountains this year.
We also did a day hike and picnic up Adam's Canyon.
The first half mile up the switch backs nearly killed us but Mia didn't seem to mind it.
Mia even packed her own water for the first time.
After we made it up the switch backs we had to let Mia out for a little bit so Monty could recover.
Mia was constantly drinking her water. Mia+1 liter of water= 2 soaked through diapers.
The trail was a little steeper and rockier than we had anticipated. Mia got to do her fair share of hiking too.
After about 4 hours we finally made it up to Adam's falls and enjoyed a picnic lunch.
Monty and Mia ventured out to play closer to the falls.
I helped carry Mia too, just on the way back down. I'm not as buff as Monty.Mia is becoming more and more of a helper. Probably her favorite thing to do is help cook.
We had our ward BBQ this month. Mia had fun running through the field playing with all the other kids.
We went up to Idaho to visit my family this month. It was super hot and my parents didn't have a pool to play in. My brother got the idea of blowing up one of the rafts we use to float the river and use that. It was quite the redneck swimming pool but hey it helped us cool off. LOL
Mia definitely loves her Uncle Shawn.
Eventually we gave up on the redneck pool and ran through the sprinklers instead.
Jumping on the tramp has become one of Mia's favorite things to do at Grandma's house. I love that the tramp is buried in the ground so it makes it really easy for her to get on and off.
Mia loved bouncing with Grandma, Grandma on the other had was freaking out. It was pretty funny to watch.
Grandpa has a big garden. Mia got to go out and help Grandma pick raspberries and peas
Mia has a bit of an obsession with lawn mowers. She calls them tractors. There have been days we have gone to Lowe's for no other reason then to let Mia sit on the "tractors." While we were up in Idaho she got to go for a ride with Grandpa on his tractor. It made her day.
Here in Utah the 24th of July is a big holiday too. It celebrates the day the pioneers came into Utah. It also happens to be Monty's dad's birthday. That means an extra big party. We start by playing in the water in the afternoon. Nana and grandpa have a cool sprinkler that you can run through like a car wash.
It pretty much always turns into a water fight.
The birthday boy!
After the water fight we have a big BBQ.
Then it's on to wasting time waiting for it to get dark. Sidewalk chalk and poppits took up some time.Getting ready for the show!
Monty kind of put himself in charge of the firework show this year.
We had a good mix of aerials and ground fireworks.
Happy Birthday America and UtahI have to start this post with an addendum to July. The pictures weren't on my camera so they didn't get put with the rest of them. On July 4th we welcomed a new little cousin, Monty's brother and his wife had a little girl named Sophie. She is adorable and Mia likes going to visit "Baby Dophie" as she calls her. July 17th Mia got another little cousin named Daxton. My brother and his wife had their 2nd child. We get to go see him in September.
August seemed to settle down a little bit for us. It was still super hot so we spent a lot of time either hanging inside or playing in the water.
We started out the month with our Ward Camp out. This was Mia's first time camping and she had a blast! Mom and Dad were left exhausted but it was a good time. Mia helped Monty put up the tent by holding the stakes and handing them to him.
Don't let the sour face fool you, she was very excited to finally be able to climb in the tent.
Mia and Monty joined in on the game of kickball.
Sitting at the campfire waiting for the evening program.
Mia was very excited to go to bed in her tent. The problem was she was too excited to fall asleep. It was after 11:00 pm before she finally passed out and then she was up before 7:00 am. Like I said we were exhausted but everyone got a nice afternoon nap to make up for it.
Bet you can't guess what kind of doughnuts we had for breakfast on the camp out.
Monty took Mia bowling for the first time with a bunch of our old friends from up in Ogden. She had a blast and managed to knock down a few pins.
We had only been to the splash pad in Riverdale so we decided it was time to check out some of the other ones in the area. This is the new one in Layton.
Mia was a fan of the slide.
We also hit up the splash pad in Kaysville.
I decided to turn the carpet cleaning box into a little house for Mia. She got nearly a whole month's worth of play out of it before it finally fell apart.
It definitely is a Mia size house and not a Mom size house.
Monty's mom had a grand kid sleep over this month. The girls all brought their tents and they had a camp out in the back yard complete with a hot dog dinner.
The pyramid (or at least as close as you can get with 4 people).
The girls decided to teach Mia how to roller skate.
Ready for bed!
One Saturday we decided to check out the Air Force Museum at Hill AFB. Neither Monty or I had ever been there and we are always pointing the planes out to Mia as they are flying over our house so we figured we'd go get a closer look at some of them.
They had some seriously massive planes there.
Mia caught a ride through part of it. Really it was a convenient way to keep her from touching stuff.
Mia liked the plane with the mouth.
Sitting in a cockpit seat was pretty cool too.
Mia is absolutely obsessed with her "keys" as she calls them. It's two blankets that she has taken a liking to and she has to have them both. She was wearing one of her keys this day.
Mia likes to go on walks with Aunt Trina to WalMart. This is usually what she looks like upon return. Out like a light.
Our neighbor Claire has outgrown her roller skates. Ever since Mia slept over at Nana's house she's wanted to skate more. When Mia found these in Claire's basement she didn't want to take them off. Luckily we have nice neighbors and they are letting us borrow them.
The last weekend in August we went bowling as a family. This bowling alley had ramps so Mia was able to get her ball down the lane with some force.
No summer would be complete without a trip to Cherry Hill.
We had a great family day playing in the water. Mia was really disappointed that she wasn't big enough for the tube slide but try as we may there wasn't a way to put her in her own tube that she could stay on very well.
This girl definitely loves the water!
